Hola, soy Raquel Labrador y aplico mi formación como artista visual al dibujo y la ilustración.

​

Mi trabajo se centra en explorar la psique representando emociones y experiencias humanas en una búsqueda constante de identidad, libertad y sanación.

​

Una parte destacada de mi trabajo son los retratos, en los que encuentro una herramienta poderosa que me brinda libertad expresiva y me permite dar voz y representación a identidades fluidas, diversas, mestizas. Éstos son aspectos de la sociedad actual que celebro y me fascinan.

​

Esa libertad que representan me motiva a acompañar los dibujos con trazos espontáneos, colores vibrantes, aplicados de maneras libres y utilizando materiales que no me permiten ir al detalle como la acuarela o los pasteles al óleo.

​

Prefiero trabajar a mano ya que me gusta establecer una conexión íntima con los dibujos, los materiales y su proceso natural. 

Hello, I am Raquel Labrador, and I apply my training as a visual artist to drawing and illustration.

​

My work focuses on exploring the psyche by representing emotions and human experiences in a constant search for identity, freedom, and healing.

​

A prominent part of my work is portraiture, where I find a powerful tool that grants me expressive freedom and allows me to give voice and representation to fluid, diverse, mixed identities. These are aspects of contemporary society that I celebrate and find fascinating.

​

The freedom they represent motivates me to accompany the drawings with spontaneous strokes, vibrant colors, applied in free ways, and using materials that don't allow me to focus on detail, such as watercolor or oil pastels.

​

I prefer to work by hand because I enjoy establishing an intimate connection with the drawings, materials, and their natural process.

BIO

    

Sevilla, España. 
Vive y trabaja en Ciudad de México.

​

Estudié Bellas Artes en Sevilla y Valencia. Al licenciarme trabaje en Space Studios, Londres. Cursé el Máster en Artes Digitales de la UPF en Barcelona y viví en esta ciudad durante seis años, realizando proyectos artísticos de manera individual y colectiva. He recibido diversas becas, residencias artísticas y apoyos a la producción de parte de instituciones públicas y privadas. En 2011, recibí una beca de residencia FONCA en Ciudad de México. Desde entonces vivo en esta ciudad donde combino mi trabajo en dibujo e ilustración con mi labor como docente en la Universidad CENTRO y en la Especialidad de Diseño Multimedia de la EDINBA donde también soy coordinadora del Diplomado de ilustración aplicada.

He participado en diversas exposiciones a nivel internacional y en 2018 es seleccionada para el catálogo Latin American illustration. He ilustrado siete libros para editorial Planeta y MIRLO como “El millonario y la muerte” de Antonio Malpica, “El hombre invisible” de H. G.Wells, el “Necronomicon” de H. P. Lovecraft, “El retrato de Dorian Gray” de Oscar Wilde, “La Odisea” y “La Iliada” de Homero.

Sevilla Spain.

Lives and works in Mexico City. 

 

I studied Fine Arts in Seville and Valencia. Upon graduation I worked at Space Studios, London. I studied the Master in Digital Arts at UPF in Barcelona and lived in this city for six years, carrying out artistic projects individually and collectively. I have received various scholarships, artistic residencies and support for production from public and private institutions. In 2011, I received a FONCA residency scholarship in Mexico City. Since then I have lived in this city where I combine my work in drawing and illustration with my work as a teacher at the CENTRO University and in the Multimedia Design Specialty of EDINBA where I am also coordinator of the Diploma in Applied Illustration.

 

I have participated in various international exhibitions and in 2018 it was selected for the Latin American illustration catalog. I have illustrated seven books for the Planeta and MIRLO publishing house such as "The Millionaire and Death" by Antonio Malpica, "The Invisible Man" by HGWells, the "Necronomicon" by HP Lovecraft, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde, " The Odyssey ”and“ The Iliad ”by Homer.
